Adoption Process
Faithful Friends is committed to finding the perfect match for you! Whether you are looking for a jogging partner, a cuddle buddy, or a playmate - our adoption process was created to find a companion that complements your lifestyle. When searching for a pet, consider what your lifestyle, activity level, and home environment is like and look for an animal that is suitable for you!
Details about our adoption requirements:
Adoption applicants must be at least 21 years old. We require that all pets already in the household are spayed/neutered and are up to date on vaccines. We will adopt to out of state residents, as long as the applicant lives within an hour of our shelter. We occasionally make exceptions based on the needs of the pet. This guideline is due to the possibility of a home visit as part of the application process and additional training or follow up needed after the adoption.
Adoption Fees:
Adult Dogs: $99
Puppies: $149
Adult Cats: $45
Kittens: $75
All adoption fees may be discounted for senior and special needs
This adoption fee includes the spay or neuter surgery, routine vaccines, microchip, de-wormer, and current heartworm prevention and flea/tick control.
We have monthly adoption promotions or special sale weekends that offer additional discounts, so check with us to see if we are offering any special discounts! If you are interested in bringing home a dog AND a cat, your adoption fee for the cat will be waived!
Begin your search
Visit our shelter during our public adoption hours, which are Wednesday through Friday from 1pm to 7pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 4pm. Visit us and see all the wonderful pets we have waiting for you! An adoption counselor will guide you in finding a good match for your home. Don’t forget to ask about the dogs and cats we currently have in foster homes that are also available for adoption.
Fill out an application
If you are interested in adopting a cat, you can fill out an application before you have made your decision on which cat to bring home. If you are interested in adopting a dog, complete and hand in the application only when you have selected the specific dog you would like to adopt. We will process a dog adoption application only if it is associated with a specific dog that is available for adoption. You can also download the application and fax it to us at (302) 427-2855, email it to us or bring it with you when you visit.

Faithful Friends reviews the application
It takes up to one week (5-7 shelter business days) to process the adoption application. We will get in touch with your references and hold a phone interview with you to discuss your potential pet. During the interview, we will talk about the demands of being a pet owner and what unique needs your specific dog or cat will require. At that point, if your application is approved, you will make an appointment for the adoption and bring your new pet home!
We want to be sure that each of our pets are succeeding in their new home! A follow up phone call will come about one month after your adoption to make sure your new pet has adjusted to its new family.
Thanks to our partnerships with local Petco and Concord Pet locations you can visit some of our cats needing homes at these offsite adoption centers: Petco locations in Christiana and on Kirkwood Highway and Concord Pet stores in Hockessin, Smyrna and West Chester.
